Subway Surfers now comes to Mumbai

Subway surfers comes to Mumbai after adding cities like London, Sydney, New York and Rome. The endless runner game has been on a world tour for a while, and the new update brings it to its 12th world tour shop to Mumbai. The version 1.17.0 for Android shows users running around colourful streets of Mumbai.

The new update shows tracks lined with fruit stalls and has a lot more earthy colors. The train also has brown and cream colors similar to the ones found in Mumbai. The game has added a new collectible character called Jay which looks suspiciously like Milkha Singh as portrayed by Farhan Akhtar in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. It has the same number tag attached on the back of his shirt. Even the inspector in the game that chases the characters is now dressed up in khaki colours to go with the uniform worn by police officers in Mumbai city.

The game has seen more than 100 million downloads from the Google Play store and is currently ranked number 5 on the top free apps for Android. The game features Tricky, Jake and Fresh who are found painting in the subway by Grumpy Inspector and his Pitbull dog and have to escape him. The games features a paint powered jetpack, hoverboard surfing, and has a multi-player mode.

First generation Nexus 10 to sell in India for Rs. 29,999?

The Nexus 10 tablet that was introduced in 2012 will be available soon to consumers in India. The tablet has now been listed on the Indian Google Play store. The 16GB Wi-Fi model is priced at Rs. 29,999 and the 32GB variant is listed at $499 (Rs. 31,000). From this information we presume that Google and Samsung only plan to launch the 16GB variant in India.

Coming to the specifications of the Nexus 10, it is powered by a Samsung Exynos 5250 dual-core 1.7 GHz processor, 2GB RAM and a Mali T640 GPU. The tablet also boasts of NFC and stereo speakers. The 10-inch display has a resolution of 2560x1600 giving it a pixel density of 300 ppi. To put things into perspective, the iPad’s 9.7-inch display has a 2048x1536 resolution giving it a 264ppi pixel density.
Priced at Rs. 29,999 the tablet isn’t such a stellar deal. To start with, it runs on a generation old hardware and rendering content for such a high-resolution display requires some serious power under the hood.
Another thing to be noted here is that the tablet isn’t listed directly on the Google Play store. If you go to the Google Play store and click on devices, you will see a listing for the first generation Nexus 7 tablet and the Nexus 5. To check out the India pricing on the Nexus 10, you need to go to http://www.google.co.in/nexus/10/. Similar is the case with the second-generation Nexus 7 tablet. You need to go to http://www.google.co.in/nexus/7/ to look at the India pricing. The second-gen Nexus 7 32GB Wi-Fi + LTE is listed for Rs. 25,999. All the devices are listed as coming soon and none of them are available for purchase as of today.
Picking up the first generation Nexus 10 tablet doesn’t seem like such a great deal. Information circulating the Internet suggests that the second generation Nexus 10 is underway and will be made by Asus this time around and not Samsung. Also, the tablet will be unveiled in the first half of 2014. We think this will happen at Google’s annual I/O event.

Nexus 5 pricing and release date spotted on Japanese site

Rumours of the next-gen Nexus smartphone, dubbed the Nexus 5, have been making the rounds for quite some time now. The rumoured Google smartphone has popped up on a Japanese retailer, redstar, where the 16GB and 32GB variants of the smartphone are listed.

As per the listing, the Nexus 5 will be hitting retailers on November 14. The price of the two variants of the smartphone is listed as 44,600 yen (approx. $460, Rs.28,500) for the 16GB variant and 49,800 yen (approx. $513, Rs. 32,000) for the 32GB.
It isn’t confirmed whether Japan will be one of the launch markets for the smartphone. Since this isn’t an official Google price listing, it is likely that the retailer has marked the price of the smartphone higher.
New information about the Nexus 5 comes weeks after Google accidently showed off the smartphone during the unveiling of the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat. The device has also made an appearance on the FCC website.
Recently, a leaked document confirmed the specifications of the smartphone - 4.95-inch IPS display with a 1920x1080 pixel resolution, Snapdragon 800 chipset with the CPU clocked at 2.3GHz along with 2GB RAM, an 8MP rear camera with OIS and 1.3MP camera for video calling. A 2300mAh battery powers the entire package.
The rumoured date for the grand unveil of the Nexus 5 is October 30, but there is no confirmation from Google yet

Finally Google Streetview comes to India

Google Streetview will be launched in India on Oct 3 at Qutab Minar in Delhi. However, for now the street-level images will be restricted to 100-monuments only.

Streetview is coming to India in partnership with the Archaeological Survey of India and the Ministry of Culture. The site which currently shows just the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, will expand to cover 100 national monuments soon.

Google will take panoramic 360-degree images of the monuments, which will be hosted on Google Earth, Google Maps and also on the Google Cultural Institute, a new initiative by Google to partner with museums and cultural institutions to host paintings, artwork and monuments online.

In the first phase, 24 World Heritage Sites will be taken up for the online project. The next 100 sites will be covered within six months according too Google. Google will take its own photographs of the monuments and the ASI will provide it with high resolution images that can be integrated into the Site View to allow users to see them in greater detail.

The ASI will also provide text to go with the 3D images on the Google Cultural Institute. Architectural floor plans of the monuments will be converted into digital models to help users navigate the site.

ASI director-general Pravin Srivastava said, “We are hoping that this will also increase traffic at our monuments. It is possible that the online presence of monuments can ignite people’s curiosity enough to propel them to visit the sites.”

Google drops Nexus 4 16GB price to $249 (Rs. 17,000) on Play store

Google has dropped the price of its flagship smartphone, the Nexus 4. The 8GB variant is now available for $199 (Rs. 13,400 approx.) and the 16GB variant is available for $249 (Rs. 16,800 approx.). There is no specific reason for the drop in price of the smartphone but we speculate that this is because Google will unveil the next Nexus soon, as early as October 2013. The new price is for a contract free brand new Nexus 4.

The drop in price of the Nexus 4 has happened in a bunch of markets including Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, Korea, and the UK. There is no information whether the smartphone will see a price drop in India but if it does happen, a lot of local smartphone makers will be in for some stiff competition. In India, the Nexus 4 is currently available for Rs. 25,990

The Nexus 4 has very good hardware under the hood and there are competing device that showcase a better camera and display but the advantage of owning a Nexus devices is that you will be the first person to receive all the latest Android updates and the vanilla Android UI is still the best UI to work on.
