RCom raises 3G rates, offers 1GB of data at Rs.156

RCom raises 3G rates, offers 1GB of data at Rs.156

Reliance Communications (RCom) has raised 3G Internet rates, though brings it at par with its 2G data rates. Reliance is now offering 1GB of 3G data at Rs. 156. Earlier, it charged Rs. 123 for 1GB data.
The operator, however, is still offering 3G at Rs. 123 price point, but only 400 MB of data. For Rs. 246, RCom is offering 1.5GB of 3G data. Users can get 3GB of 3G data for Rs. 492.
Back in July this year, RCom had brought down 3G data rates in an attempt to 'beak the 3G entry barrier' in the country. The operator offered 3G data for 1GB at Rs. 123, 2GB at Rs. 246 and 4GB at Rs. 492.
“The Company’s 3G network is supplemented by IP back-haul for a superior data usage experience. Further, the Company’s wealth of fiber-linked towers will help carry the incremental traffic that will come in, offering a superior 3G experience,” the operator had said in its release. Revision in 3G data rates comes shortly after the operator released its quarter results, showing a significant growth in the 3G segment. RCom claims to have 34 million data customers including 9.1 million 3G users – supposedly largest 3G base in the industry.
Even as RCom has raised the 3G data rates, prices are still close to its 2G data rates. As compared to the rivals, RCom's 3G data rates are still cheaper. Vodafone is offering 1GB of 3G data at Rs. 251, while Airtel is offering the same at Rs. 255.

Aircel to offer free 3G data with select D-Link dongles, routers

Aircel to offer free 3G data with select D-Link dongles, routers

Aircel has tied up with D-Link to offer free data to new users of D-Link data card ‘D-Link DWM-156’ and routers ‘D-Link DWR-512' and 'DWR-730'. Airtel will be offering customers 1 GB of free 3G data per month for a period of 3 months.
To avail the benefits, customers need to make a total recharge of Rs. 100 per month post activation; free 3G benefits will be over and above recharge benefits.
Anupam Vasudev, Chief Marketing Officer - Aircel, says “A recent report by IAMAI and IMRB estimates that by June 2014, India will have 243 million Internet users, at which point of time, it is expected to overtake the US as the second largest Internet base in the world. This clearly indicates that India is now experiencing a data revolution and operator- device tie-ups will play a significant role in strengthening the telecom ecosystem, which is critical to fuel this growth. We are confident that with D-Link’s superior hardware technology and Aircel’s robust network capabilities, we will be able to provide a wholesome 3G experience to our customers.”
Anoop Jarial, VP – Product Marketing, D-Link (India) Limited, says: “With our association with Aircel, we aim to provide consumers with a unique online experience that is exclusively designed to meet customer demand. D-Link’s innovative & user friendly 3G devices like DWM-156 & DWR-730 are sure to offer seamless access to high-definition content, music, movie etc. anytime, anywhere.”
Aircel has been focussing on the data market for quite some time. The operator recently tied up with Micromax to offer bundled data, voice and content packages. The new tie up comes shortly after the operator introduced new unified data tariffs for its 2G and 3G customers.

Aircel has introduced a new range of tariff plans, which allow 2G and 3G users to enjoy data services at a common price point. The new tariff plans start at Rs. 27, which provides 7 days of unlimited 2G/3G data for 7 days. Aircel’s new monthly plans start at Rs. 128, which gives 2G and 3G users 1GB of data with a validity of 30 days.
The operator says the unified data pricing helps customers 2G network avail the benefits of these data packs at 2G speed, whereas the customers on 3G network with 3G supported handsets able to browse internet on 3G or 2G.
“New set of mobile internet tariffs will offer complete flexibility to its customers to use 2G/3G services in the same pack. With this launch, Aircel becomes the first telecom operator in India to offer truly unified internet packs,” says Aircel in a release.
While announcing the new data plans, Aircel’s VP – data and devices, Sunil Kuttam said the company is focusing on the data market. The operator has already set up dedicated data centers for the convenience of users. Also, the operator is currently overhauling its network, which expected to be completed by next month.
“Aircel’s new Pocket Internet (PI) plans are a new concept. This is aimed at new Internet users as well as youth, and ensures convenience for users as they don’t need to worry about different price points for 2G and 3G,” he said, highlighting Aircel is perhaps the only operator to provide free roaming on data.
According to Sunil, data usage in the country had gone up significantly, and is expected to double in the near future. He also revealed 3G contributed about 40 percent of Aircel’s total revenue from data vertical. He also hinted at the launch of Aircel-branded devices next month.

Reliance Communications (RCom) has announced new affordable 3G data plans. The new 3G data plans, which the company claims to be as low as 2G rates, are available for prepaid and postpaid Reliance customers.
Reliance is offering 3G data for 1GB at Rs. 123, 2GB at Rs. 246 and 4GB at Rs. 492. It's notable Reliance charges Rs. 125 for 1GB of 2G data. New customers coming to the Reliance network through MNP will also be able to avail of 1 GB of 3G data free per month for two months.
RCom says the aggressive and affordable pricing is likely to push adoption of 3G network in the country, “ensuring greater traction from mid- to high-level data users, and resulting in significant data usage and revenue growth across customer segments”.
“This is an inherent part of RCOM’s objective to take high-speed data services to every Smartphone and tablet user in the country, without them worrying about incremental or high costs. By breaking the 3G entry barrier, we plan to bring about a behavioral change and take the benefits of quick data access to everyone and impact not just lives, but lifestyles as well,” says Gurdeep Singh, President and Chief Executive Officer, Wireless, RCom.
“RCOM is taking the initiative to popularize high-speed 3G data usage by offering 3G data access at 2G prices. The Company’s 3G network is supplemented by IP back-haul for a superior data usage experience. Further, the Company’s wealth of fiber-linked towers will help carry the incremental traffic that will come in, offering a superior 3G experience,” says the company in a release.
Reliance's new 3G data plans come shortly after various other telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular slashed their 2G data price up to 80-90 percent. Reliance's new affordable 3G plans is likely to trigger a fresh price war in the 3G segment.
