Vodafone announces new affordable international roaming plans
Vodafone India has announced new and
affordable international roaming packs for its postpaid and prepaid
customers travelling abroad. Vodafone's new packs cover 53 countries
including UK, USA, UAE, Thailand and Singapore. The operator says new
international roaming packs give up to 95 percent discount on data and
up to 78 percent discount on outgoing local and international calls as
compared with prevailing rates.
The international roaming packs are
available for a rental of Rs. 599 and Rs. 1499 and come with a validity
of 10 and 30 days respectively. For the list of applicable countries and
networks, a subscriber need to SMS Pack<space>country to 111.
To activate the pack of their choice,
Vodafone subscribers need to SMS ACT<space>IR1 for the Rs. 599
pack and ACT<space>IR2 for the Rs. 1499 pack. The entire list of
countries where the offer on these packs is valid can be accessed at www.vodafone.co.in

95 percent discount as compared to current rates. Outgoing local and
international calls will be charged at Rs. 15/minute and Rs. 30/minute
respectively, a discount of about 78 percent over current rates.
Incoming calls will cost Rs. 30/min (over 50% discount on prevailing
rates). The Rs. 1499 plan in additional offers 30 mins of free incoming
calls.

Vodafone has introduced a new offer under which it is offering free Twitter
access to its prepaid and postpaid users in the country. Available from
July 29 to November 1, users get free access to official Twitter app
for Android platform as well as Twitter's mobile site (m.twitter.com).
It's notable standard charges will be applicable on accessing third-party apps, content or links.
Speaking on this latest initiative to
provide differentiated experience to its customers, Vivek Mathur, Chief
Commercial Officer, Vodafone India said, “Vodafone India has always been
at the forefront of providing innovative and user friendly mobile
internet experience for its customers in India. Our partnership with
Twitter and this offering is yet another step in our ongoing endeavour

Vodafone India has introduced a new Campus Pack aimed at college students in Delhi and NCR.
Users can avail Vodafone's
Campus Pack through bonus card of either Rs. 149 or Rs. 275 to enjoy
STD calls at 40 p/min. The pack also offers 100 free SMS (local + STD)
valid over 28 days. Additionally Bonus Card of Rs. 149 offers 1 GB of 2G
data services, whereas the Rs. 275 bonus card offers 1 GB of 3G data
services.

Vodafone slashes 2G data tariffs by 80 percent
While telecom companies gear up for the
fourth generation broadband services and continue to expand the 3G
coverage in India, telecom giant Vodafone has announced a massive 80 percent cut in its 2G data tariffs.
New rates will be initially available in
Karnataka, UP (West), Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Vodafone plans
to roll out the new tariffs in rest of the country in a phased manner.
As per the new tariffs, Vodafone will be charging 2p/10KB, down from the
previous 10p/10KB.
Vivek Mathur, chief commercial officer,
Vodafone India, says: "The overall internet penetration in India is low
while the mobile penetration is several times higher. Most consumers
will discover the power of the internet via the mobile. We want to
accelerate mobile internet adoption through penetration, consumption and
value addition."
Vodafone's new tariff is likely to
attract new data users as well as help the telecom giant generate more
revenue from the second generation wireless technology, which still has a
massive presence in the country. Earlier this year, Airtel had raised 2G data rates in a bid to improve margins and cover costs. Fortunately, other telecom operators didn't follow the suit.
Vodafone's move is likely to trigger new price war in the 2G segment. Last year, the telecom operators were involved in a similar price war in the 3G segment – though ultimately helping growth of mobile Internet and adoption of 3G network.
